About Us

Grand Central is centrally located in the heart of Toowoomba CBD, offering the only true experiential shopping destination in Darling Downs.

Grand Central offers the only Myer department store in the region and features over 70 fashion stores including H&M, Country Road, Seed, Sheike, Veronika Maine, Jacqui E, Portmans, Sussan and Sportsgirl. Grand Central is home to many other leading national retailers including Target, Coles, Rebel Sport, The Body Shop, Birch Carroll & Coyle Cinema, a 550 seat food court and 140 specialty stores.

History

Stage one of the Centre opened in September 1996 incorporating a new Target store, a new Coles Supermarket and 30 specialty stores. Stage two opened with Myer, the only national department store in the Darling Downs, alongside an additional 40 stores and a 550 seat food court. The development was completed in June 1999 with the introduction of a five screen Birch Carroll & Coyle Cinema Complex.

Grand Central has recently undergone a $500 million redevelopment that doubled the size of the centre to approx. 90,000m2.

We’re proud to be bolstering Toowoomba’s reputation as a city that is coming of age as a thriving regional hub and delivering the kind of retail experiences that the local area deserves.

Grand Central’s redevelopment was staged so that we could bring to life elements of the development as they were completed to the standard and quality we were focused on delivering.  So far, we’ve added over 100 specialty retailers, discount department stores, supermarkets and fashion brands to Grand Central, as well as a new fresh food precinct and dining destination, including a range of restaurants and cafes.

Stage One – opened 15 September 2016

Grand Central’s two-level retail galleria opened in September 2016. Around 50 retailers are located in the galleria, with it primarily being a fashion-focused offering, incorporating classic contemporary and urban youth precincts, plus a homewares precinct on the lower level.

The galleria extends over Dent and Victoria Streets, the railway line, and West Creek. Grand Central is the first commercial development extending over a rail line in Queensland since 1983.

Stage Two – opened 29 March 2017

Around 30 new stores joined our centre for the Stage Two opening, and more have opened since that time. We delivered some of the biggest names in Australian retail to one location for the first time in Toowoomba’s history.  Kmart, BIG W and Woolworths joined Myer, Target and Coles to make Grand Central the region’s single source of access to these powerhouse brands.

Several fast-casual food outlets such as Betty’s Burgers and Schnitz also joined our centre as part of Stage Two.

Additional convenient car parking was delivered, bringing the total number of new car parks at the centre to 2,000, and the total number of spaces at the centre to approximately 4,000.

Stage Three – opened late 2017

Grand Central’s outdoor community space, Central Square, opened on 31 August 2017.  This space fronts Margaret Street and includes a large staircase into the centre, a grassed area, trees and seating.  It’s a focal point for the community and is overlooked by the dining precinct.

The first two restaurants in Grand Central’s new dining precinct opened on 31 August 2017 (Chong Co & Yum Cha Cuisine). Since that time, other restaurants have joined the precinct, including Max Brenner, Vapiano, The Bavarian, PappaRich and Lonestar.

Grand Central’s Market Room opened in early September 2017, providing a range of fresh food retailers to the centre including Toowoomba Fresh, Andrew’s Meats, Central Seafood Market, and HanaroMart.  Also opening in September 2017 was Duggan Lane, connecting Duggan Street directly to Level 1 of our centre and our Market Room retailers.
