Here in Toowoomba we boast one of Australia’s largest (and not to mention coolest) outdoor gallery; with more than 55 street art murals by local, national and international artists vibrantly contributing to the heart of our city.
Every Mural tells its own story, reflected in the individual expression of each artist and its this same sentiment that runs at the heart of urban youth culture where through fashion, the next generation look for creative ways of self expression, reinterpreting what’s out there and making it their own.
We love it for it’s individualistic expression; often uninhibited and inspirational, it’s a reminder of the creative in all of us and while aspects will vary, urban youth style carries that same distinctive vibe of reinvention season after season. We’ve captured some looks that are representative of this moment so take inspiration and borrow some style cues from our city’s future generation.
For the girls, the teeny tiny, the cropped and the micro continue to find themselves paired back with the slouchy and the relaxed; bucket hats and gumboots have taken their place; distressed and ripped denim remains a staple with a windbreaker jacket for the win, coming a close second only to oversized sweaters.
Pleated Checkered tennis skirts are standard and the graphic tee a non negotiable with the newest kid on the block undoubtedly the utility or boiler suit featuring oversized pockets and belted waists.
Boys - Oversized sweatshirts and graphic tees might just be the pieces on shared rotation with the girls in your tribe (consider yourself warned) and ripped jeans with carefully curated sneakers are your signature. Hiking boots a solid option and perfectly paired with your beanies for the coldest of days.
Lift your game with cropped trousers and a bomber and consider denim in all the colours - a bold and boisterous decision.
While we wouldn't presume to tell you exactly how to pull it altogether, we’ve created some looks below for inspiration only #makeityourown
