This season is a time to experiment. We invite you to have fun with different looks, colours and textures to explore your beauty by adding a pop of unexpected to your daily routine. Whether a metallic eyeshadow or a bold lip, don’t be afraid to blend sophistication with playful twists this season.

Bold Eyes and Bold Lips

Usually a big no no, but this year it's all about going bold and making a statement. Using colours that can work together and flatter the skin is the trick, eg wearing a bold pink lipstick just help brighten up the skin and can elevate any outfit, as in winter we are drawn to wearing clothes that are darker like blacks and navy. Pair the lipstick with a smoky eye or even a coloured eyeliner flick like a purple or Burgundy that will extend and elevate the eye shape.

For this look try Nars Lipstick in Schiap paired with Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Eyeliner from Mecca Maxima or Maybelline Tattoo Gel Eyeliner 942 Rich Berry, which is a gorgeous Berry-Brown Hue that instantly brightens every eye colour that you can pick up from Priceline Pharmacy.

Over Blushing

It's all about overly flushed cheeks, this trend has evolved over the last few years and it's become even more apparent everyone loves blush, and for good reason! Wearing a brightly coloured blush instantly gives the impression of fresh and lively skin. As we mature, skin can become more sallow, so adding a brighter blush can help brighten you up.

My go to blush is L'Oréal Paris Wake Up & Glow Melon Dollar Baby Blush from Big W. Add some blush with a rounded fluffy brush on the apple of the cheeks and then blend upwards toward the temple, you can also add a small amount of the bridge of the nose and eyelids.

Shimmer Eyes

For years we have been told as we get older to avoid shimmers on the eyes, but this mentality is dated and ideally wearing anything shimmery on the eyes will actually help give you a mini eye-lift. Shimmers help reflect light which in-turn help minimise texture.

For a quick and easy application, try the Balm Lid-Quid® Sparkling Liquid Eyeshadow or Champagne Chantacaille Mermaid Eye Colour, a cream to powder formula that is full proof to apply and sets itself, starting from the lash line then blend upwards up to the brow bone. To amp things up you can also layer a shimmer powder over it in a pop of colour like Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow. Both of these shimmery pops of colour are available at Mecca Maxima.

Glowing Skin

Glowing Skin will never not be a trend. Why? Because it makes you look healthy, hydrated and youthful. The key to this trend is skin prep, making sure you layer the skincare foundations before makeup will help achieve the look you're after. I always use a rich moisturiser before any makeup and ensure that it's well massaged into the skin, taking your time as the movements of the finger tips against the face help the product warm up so it dives deeper into the skin and is absorbed.

My go to moisturiser is the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream from Mecca Maxima, its iconic for a reason. Or if you're on a budget No7 HydraLuminous Water Surge Gel Cream is a great alternative from Priceline Pharmacy. Then apply your foundation with any tool you are comfortable using, like a brush or sponge, but also I'm not mad at using fingers, as long as they are clean. If you're looking for a more budget friendly option, a great switch in is the Maybelline Superstay 24 Hour Skin Tint.

Playful Nails

Nails are an accessory to any outfit, have fun and play with colours. A trend that is making a comeback is mismatched nails, where you use 2 shades (or more!) and paint nails different colours. I only use OPI Infinite Shine because it lasts, the colours are so extensive and they are so shiny!

My go to clashing shades that work is always red and pink combo! Its a fun class but it works! Try OPI Infinite Shine in Big Apple Red + Spring Break the Internet from Myer.
