History
For 30 years, Grand Central has been at the heart of Toowoomba, bringing together shopping, dining, entertainment and community in one convenient destination.
Since opening in 1996, Grand Central has evolved into the Darling Downs' leading retail, dining and entertainment destination. Originally anchored by Target, Coles and 30 specialty stores, the centre expanded to include Myer, a 550 seat food court and cinema complex, establishing itself as a key shopping destination for the region.
In 2016, Grand Central embarked on a transformative $500 million redevelopment that doubled the centre's footprint to approximately 90,000m2. The project delivered more than 100 new retailers, expanded dining and entertainment experiences and introduced some of Australia's most recognised brands to Toowoomba for the first time.
A centrepiece of the redevelopment was the striking two-level retail galleria, spanning Dent and Victoria Streets, West Creek and the railway line. As the first commercial development built over a rail line in Queensland since 1983, the galleria represents a significant achievement in both design and engineering.
Today, Grand Central is home to more than 140 specialty stores, major department stores, supermarkets, leading fashion and lifestyle brands, Event Cinemas, The Market Room fresh food precinct, and an extensive range of dining experiences within the Dining Quarter, creating a true retail, dining and entertainment destination in the heart of Toowoomba. Major retailers including Myer, Kmart, BIG W, Target, Coles and Woolworths are complemented by leading Australian and international brands, making Grand Central the region's most comprehensive shopping destination.
